It’s not our parents who know us better, rather in today’s cutting-edge technological world, it is Facebook. Yes!! I know it might sound, you weird and scary, but this is a fact.
Facebook knows you pretty well, what you do, what you like, what you buy, even what kind of things you are interested in. Usually, Facebook fetches data of consumer behavior from their browsing history and create their ads as per your requirements.
But, the thing I am going to tell you now will definitely tough for you to digest. Now, after walls, Facebook too got the ears to listen your whispering.
As per the source, Kelli Burns, a professor of mass communications at University of South Florida claims that “Facebook secretly listening to its users’ conversations.”
Is Facebook Listening Us?
Although Facebook responds directly to claim that “it does not use your phone’s microphone to inform ads or to change what you see in News Feed.” but still some people have tested this to know whether it is rumor or what.
In fact, one of the YouTube user Neville has demonstrated the way the Facebook listens to conversations to serve ads.
The user states that he and his wife took a random subject, something that they never talked about or searched online. So, they talked about Cat Food in front of his iPhone. After 2 days they found that their Facebook page is full of Cat Food Ads for a few days.

Threat to Privacy:
This may be sounding exciting to some people, but when it comes to privacy, it may take a toll on your personal privacy.
- This type of things can attract those kind of people who wanted to know about other people for the wrong reasons.
- Secondly, as Facebook prepares ads on the basis of our conversation, this may lead to lead to the leakage of personal information like income size, expenditure and all that.
- Thirdly, it can be a threat to our various confidential information including Login credentials, Banking Credentials and many others. One can easily misuse the information from such process.
So, it is recommended to turn “off” the microphone while using Facebook to avoid any ambiguous situation. Go to settings>facebook>microphone.
According to BBC News, Facebook denies listening our conversation using microphones. They say, the ads are based on people’s interests and other profile information – not what you’re talking out loud about.
The ads are coincidental and the ad may have appeared before but had not been noticed because it had no prior relevance.
On the other hand, there are tweets claiming that facebook is spying on us.
It can be the biggest threat for everyone. So, definitely, some concrete steps need to be taken as soon as possible.
